Rainy Days and Weddings Never Get us Down

With the recent change in weather, it seems only appropriate to mention one of our favorite "rainy day" weddings. It's true that you can plan every detail for a perfect event, but sometimes Mother Nature has other plans - as was the case with this San Francisco Ferry Building wedding. Not even the gloomy weather could dampen the spirits of our lovely couple. By the end of the evening the skies had cleared and the couple took advantage of the wet streets on the Embarcadero and view of the Bay Bridge for some truly stunning photos. We were so pleased to be a part of this gorgeous event and wish Patty & Peter a life of love and happiness!

It's in the details - from custom invitations to creative cakes!

We are always so excited with folks come to us with a challenge! Our bride had been searching and searching online and just could not find what she was looking for...something modern, unique, playful and bold plus she wanted to include a nod to her soon-to-be husband's Asian heritage.

We think we nailed it and so did our couple. With lots of input from them, we came up with "exactly what we were looking for, even though we didn't know what it was going to look like."

The couple had chosen CornerStone Gardens in Sonoma (a unique venue with lots of sculptures and structures) for their ceremony and reception with 200 guests.

Next we used the custom illustration, artwork and color palette as a guide to develop all of the other fun elements. Some of the pieces we worked on with the couple to help make their celebration one-of-a-kind:

custom invitation using Envelopments paper + pockets
detailed map drawn specifically for them
mailing address wraps with custom return address logo
programs, menus and escort cards in mini envelopes
table makers including photos of them as children
packaging for "kid packs" for all of the little guests
markers for the dessert bar and festive tables for the candy jars

We also supplied files to other vendors working with the couple:

mailbox for cards and small gifts
flip book photo booth covers
and the MOST AMAZING CAKE! We always love to see how our designs translate into other components and this cake was just perfect!

Time flies when you're having fun!

Wow, 2011 just flew by! We were so busy working in the studio designing custom invitations and planning fantastic parties we didn't have time to update the blog. I know, tsk tsk! We'll try to do better in 2012!

In the meantime we wanted to share some favorites of ours...

{Ornate Cut Holiday Cards}

This style card was new to us this year. A printer we're working with allows for you to design a card with this unique die cut. It is fun because you get a little "peek-a-boo" of the inside of the card when the card in folded. For the holidays we used this format for our own personal card as well as for the family card for our outstanding photographer Chrissy Gray of Bella Luna Studios.

Since we both own our own businesses we wanted to do a little marketing on the backside. Bella Luna used the space to show off all of the unique and special photos she is able to capture during a family photo session. We used the space to let people know we've open a studio in Point Richmond.

The style of card would be great as a birth announcement or graduation announcement. The card can be turned on its side as well and there are a few other die cut styles to choose from.

{Zoo Wedding with Envelopments Pocket}

Our clients were getting married at the San Francisco Zoo and wanted a playful yet elegant invitation to set the tone for their wedding in May 2011. We designed their invitation as well as helped them with event design and coordination. They even had a meet and greet with some zoo animals during the cocktail hour. Who knew, a wedding at the Zoo?

The first time we met this couple we just fell in love! We were so excited to work with them on designing a beautiful event. After their reception venue fell through, about 2 months before the wedding, we had to scramble to rework the event....but in the end, I think the day was better than we could have hoped for! The couple worked with a shop in the Mission District to design custom papel picados (chopped paper) flags to decorate the venue. We took the artwork and created custom invitations.

May Day in L.A.

Stacey & Company was pulled in to consult on a wedding in Los Angeles. The couple had attended another event designed and coordinated by Stacey & Company. We first met with our couple about a year and a half before the big event and provided a little venue feedback. After setting the date for May Day - they wanted us to design something that would celebrate spring and incorporate their initials carved in a tree (the bride had fallen in love with something she saw in a wedding magazine). So our spring blossom design worked perfect with their color palette of pink & green.

Our happy couple opted for a full invitation suite including, save the date postcards, invitations with custom illustration, response cards, menus, table markers, escort cards, tags for homemade cordials and much, much more.

Our budget-minded couple was looking for an inexpensive, yet elegant idea for their centerpieces and we were more than happy to help out. Many people don't realize that a real cost-saving option for centerpieces is to rent from Stacey & Company. We have a wide variety of vases, jars, cake plates, etc. available for our clients to use at a fraction of the cost of purchasing them.

Pink + Green Sweet Treats
When working with our bride we made several suggestions regarding table decor, centerpieces and general set up and layout of the room. We also suggested that she take the pink and green color palette to the next level and do a pink and green candy bar. We helped the bride source and purchase the candy as well as design custom treat bags for the guests to fill up, take home and enjoy.

As the wedding drew closer, the bride and groom decided they needed a little more assistance with wedding planning and day-of coordination. We were more than happy to step up. We sent team member JoAnna to be their day of coordinator. She handled everything from transportation of centerpiece bowls and candy to tear down of the event at the end of the night and everything in between. In the end, our bride and groom were so happy and were glad to have an extra set of hands on deck.

Weddings in Wine Country

We love wine country weddings. What can we say, we're a sucker for gorgeous weather, great lighting and awesome venues. Last year a couple contacted us to help with "month-of" wedding coordination. We were more than happy to oblige, especially when we found out the location. The wedding was took place at Solage in Calistoga - A scenic, hip resort on the Silverado Trail. Luckily for us, our bride and groom were super organized, knew exactly what they wanted, so once the day was upon us, they let us take the reigns.

Our bride and groom also really liked the idea of a candy bar featuring some of their favorite candies in their favorite colors; brown, purple & green. We helped the happy couple source the candy, order it and set up the bar on the day of with apothecary jars & scoops provided by Stacey & Company.

Our crafty bride made her own jam & printed up recipes for her guests.

We also helped our bride source designs for her program fans, menus, place cards & table markers. She was able to pull it all together and it turned out beautifully.

"Month-of wedding coordination" involves as much or as little hand-holding that our couple needs the month before their event. In this case, our bride & groom were very organized and knew what they wanted, but just needed some moral support & guidance. We had several meetings, attended a tasting, ran the rehearsal and supervised all set-up on the day-of. The event went off without a hitch and the happy couple are now living happily ever after.

Trentadue + Park Avenue Catering = Fantastic Wine Country Wedding

When we got the call from the groom-to-be we were initially excited to have one more wedding in the 2010 season and to work at Trentadue... little did we know how much we would ENJOY the event.

We had been guests at a few weddings at Trentadue - so we knew the event space was going to be beautiful and most likely the food great (because they only work with preferred wine country caterers) but the service, ambiance and delicious food we're over the top for Elise & Greg's November 6th wedding!

The couple had originally contacted us for day of coordination, but during our initially consultation they discovered we could help them with their ceremony and reception stationery as well.

They had chosen a very simple yet romantic and elegant wedding invitation and wanted to continue on this vein, but to create a custom look for the big day.

We designed a oval swirl border and partnered it with die cut escort card tags, tying the embellished plaque shapes all together.

They wanted to do both escort cards and place cards, but with a creative twist. Therefore we suggested using some wrought iron trees that we had in the "creative closet" along with the escort tags. We LOVED how the tags turned out and many of the guests commented on the creativity and uniqueness of the pieces.

Again the oval plaque shape made its way onto the table marker, the place card and the menu - which all tied in perfectly with the favor put together by the bride's family.

We believe the table designs created an elegant yet comfortable setting for the superb meal and very family focused vibe of the event. We were blown away by the professionalism of Leslie and her team from Park Avenue Catering. Often we have our work cut out for us when getting every piece perfect for a reception, but everyone was a team player and excited to help make all of the little details sing…plus they put out an amazing meal (we were lucky enough to get the tri tip with polenta (YUM!) We can't wait for another opportunity to work with Park Avenue again.

If you are considering a wine country wedding you MUST contact Alyssa at Trentadue and go on a venue tour. She totally rocked and her set up staff was top notch, making our job super easy (shhh! don't tell the bride and groom we didn't even have to break a sweat during set up).

Although we did not add additional lighting or decor elements still looked grand and had a beautiful glow. The one add-on (a surprise for the bride from the groom) was a beautiful chandelier in the patio arbor, where we set up the bar. It added an elegant bit of charm. All of the outdoor areas come with white twinkle lights and lanterns in the trees. Oh what a little white light can do.

Congrats to Elise & Greg! Thanks for calling on Stacey & Company to be there for your big day. We had a blast!

Swanky San Francisco Movie Birthday Party

Have we mentioned how much we love our creative clients? Just recently we had the opportunity to plan a unique birthday party in San Francisco. Our client wanted something different & original for her husband's birthday. So since the birthday boy is a huge movie buff, we thought the Variety Children's Charity private screening room in the historic Hobart Building would be the perfect setting.

We designed a vintage film invite for the event, setting the stage for a fabulous adults night out in the city.

The screening room has a great lounge area with comfy sofas & chairs and a bar area. This space was a great space for everyone to hang out in and have some drinks and snacks before the movie.

Stacey & Company whipped up some light snacks for the pre-movie meal including chicken salad croissant sandwiches, pea pesto crostini, and an artesian cheese board with fruit and crackers.

We also brought in gourmet pizzas from Brick & Bottle a fabulous new restaurant in Corte Madera.

Of course no movie screening would be complete without candy and popcorn. We kept our party goers well stocked with all the movie-candy favorites plus kettle corn popped fresh that day at our local farmer's market. Everyone had there own little treat bags (with custom sticker) to fill up just in time for the movie...

We topped off the evening with an iconic San Francisco movie, Vertigo. The night was a complete success and our birthday boy loved it! The most fun was hearing all the people talk about the San Francisco landmarks that they recognized in the film. Happy Birthday Frank!

best of the bay - bride nine/mocha bride | wedding invitation competition

We were so excited to get the call from Bay Bella Publishing (the publishers of Mocha Bride and Bride Nine magazines) and they asked us to compete in their Best of the Bay competition. So on October 18th we packed up the car with samples of our newest design (created just for the contest based on some our favorite elements from several weddings this season) and headed to the Gaia Resort in Napa to show off our stuff!

After arriving we set up our display table, presented to judges and told them that we should win! Our display included:

We thought that instead of just showing the pieces on a display board, we'd show off our wares in action, so on the backside of the table we created a little vignette showing the elements as they would be used at a wedding.

40th Birthday Bash at Orson San Francisco

We got a last minute call from a client to help him plan his brother's 40th birthday. The plan: they we're going to have dinner at a neighborhood restaurant and then wanted to surprise him by having a limo pick them up after and take them to a cocktail party. We we're given three weeks, a modest budget and some general likes and dislikes of the guest of honor and we were off!

We worked with our friends at Orson Restaurant & Lounge (owned by chef Elizabeth Falkner of Citizen Cake and Food Network) in SOMA. We booked the Mezzanine upstairs, where we could have semi private use of the space and a dedicated bar.

While about 12 of the birthday boys best pals had dinner, Orson got ready for the other guests to arrive...And when the guest of honor arrived, he was greeted with a surprise!

Sadly we had another event to attend that evening, so we were not able to taste the yummy fare this time, but the guests gave it rave reviews. We started out the evening with:

Blini with crème fraiche and caviar
Smoked salmon maki rolls
Steak tartar on individual spoons
Prawns with romesco
Korean crispy pot stickers
Cheesy churros and chili jam
Asparagus and aioli dipping sauce
Arancini

And then after birthday cake the guests we're delighted with passed dessert bites:

Rocky Road Marshmallow skewers
Crème Brulee spoonfuls
Chocolaté bon bons

The birthday cake {RETRO TROPICAL SHAG - 2 layers of genoise cake with splash of rum, passionfruit-mango mousse, vanilla buttercream and unsweetened organic coconut shavings, yeah baby!} was also a huge hit and was presented by Elizabeth Falkner herself!

We also worked with Natalie Bowen Designs to whip us up some MANLY cocktail table arrangements, to give a little splash of color to the evening scene.

And my favorite shot, sent to me after the event, is of the birthday boy and his friends chillin' on the couch in the back of the SUV style limo. Party on!

If you want to have a private dining experience at Orson, the guy to talk to is Michael Beachnau @ 415.722.4380. They have several different options for where you can hold court all with very reasonable food and beverage minimums for the style of venue, atmosphere and AMAZING food.

chalkboards & postcards | unique monterey wedding

we're were so excited to get the call from joe & kelly to help them with the finishing touches (just as we had done with their friends andrew and meredith a few years ago).

we helped joe and kelly with some ideas for their ceremony and the table markers and seating chart. the couple had the fun idea of using garden markers with small chalk boards, to name the tables. we then created a large chalk board seating chart.

then at the table each guest received a stemless wine glass with a chalkboard on it and a scratcher lotto ticket. each table was equip with chalk and quarters. it was super fun for the guests and gave them something to do while they waited for their turn at the buffet.

the couple said their 'i dos' under a beautiful magnolia tree in the memory garden in monterey. since it was memorial day weekend, i go the treat of taking my family with me. my girls were so excited to peek in at the wedding and to see the bride. they never get to see me 'at work' so it was a big treat to sit on our hotel balcony and eat ice cream and listen to the band at my wedding.

oh how we love folks that enjoy being creative! for a guest book the bride and groom picked out fun postcards from the monterey area and put them out on the welcome table along with photos of themselves growing up. each guest got to sign a postcard, which later the clients will make into a book.

as we're moving into full swing with our 2010 wedding clients, we're remembering all the things we love about what we do. one favorite is incorporating a custom map into the wedding invitation suite, as either a stand alone card, worked into the format of an informational insert or on the backside of a reception card.

we love custom maps because they really help your out of town guests get the lay of the land. what might seem simple for you to understand, can be a bit complicated to folks that have not been to your area before.

we think custom maps are a steal for $125. we get to call out the area, streets, highways, airports, landmarks, etc. that we want, as well as incorporate the custom design of the invitation into the format of the map with fonts, colors and custom markers.

elegant picnic | corporate retreat

initially from these shots you might think these shots are in a restaurant or private residence, but when we pull back you'll see we're catering an elegant picnic in the park. we're always excited when we get a call from our long time client, rmc water and environment - and this call was the most interesting. as part of a corporate/partner retreat they were going to be doing a wilderness (GPS) scavenger hunt and wanted to conclude the activities with an elegant dinner in the park.

as our guests came out of the forest and into the greenway, they found us ready with a glass of wine and some pre-dinner snacks.

for dinner we served grilled ball tip, orzo pasta with feta cheese, olives and red peppers, fire roasted asparagus, green salad and broccoli salad.

for dessert we served a custom cake by shannie cakes

everyone loved the food and enjoyed dinner in the park. we're looking forward to our next party challenge!

hotel welcome bags!

we're kicking into high gear at stacey & company, helping everyone get ready for 2010 summer and fall weddings. last year we found these super cute jute* bags (made by a floral supply company) but we LOVE them for hotel welcome bags.

don't know what that is? when you do a block of rooms at a hotel for your wedding guests, it is fun to leave them a little treat either in their room or upon check in. it is a nice way to thank them for traveling to your wedding. these bags can also be a vehicle for helping your guests get to know the area.

often we'll include a wedding itinerary or local pocket guide for them to reference through out the weekend. also when you're staying at a hotel or resort that does not offer mini bars in the room - the little bags are a great place to stash sweet and salty snacks for them to much on between events or late night after the merriment. we'll often work with the couple to pull together their favorites, local specialties and just plain fun treats.

these 'jutee cutie' bags come in lots of fun colors that can coordinate with your wedding theme. we love the bags too because they stand up on their own, are big enough to hold pleanty of stuff!

in this case we created a san francisco pocket guide to help the out-of-town guests navigate around town and know when and where to hook up with the group and pick up the shuttle to the wedding in stern grove.

we worked with an illustrator to design custom pencil sketches to be used on the pocket guide, the program and the CD we enclosed in the hotel welcome bag.

*jute is increasingly being looked at as an alternative source for making paper, rather than cutting down trees for pulp.

vacation day in paradise

for mother's day, i took a break from the busy life in san francisco and went to the foothills just outside of chico, to paradise to be exact - and had a scrapbook retreat day with my moms.

i had a blast just hanging, being crafty and telling tall tales!

a paris fete | pink princess birthday

We helped this four year old celebrate in style...and since we're currently working on her 5th bday we thought we'd get around to sharing her fete photos!

She wanted a princess party, but since we like to do things different, we decided to drop in a little french flair. From the custom invites to the beautiful lunch table settings, we made this little mademoiselle smile!

We created a custom banner, with a happy birthday wish, in french. Then we worked with Just a Mom Confections to create these beautiful Eiffel Tower cookies for favors for our guests and even got a french mime to entertain the kids.

And then we finished up the party with a fun pink Eiffel Tower topped cake!

Let the planning begin!

I'm so excited for all of the fun I'm going to have this summer & fall.

I've been meeting with lots of brides, grooms, mother's of the bride, etc. and I'm getting very excited about all of the possibilities. Lots of great ideas and some really amazing venues - ones I've worked at before (St. Francis & One Fort Mason) and new spaces that I'm hoping to get to work at (Cavallo Point Lodge & The Flower Conservatory)

I'm super excited because lighting is going to be a big part of these events and lots of color. Plus I'm getting the chance to help them design their events as well as their invitations.

Can't wait for Envelopments to launch their new papers so I can get busy working them into the mix!

Went to an amazing event at Gumps yesterday with a good friend and long time client. We saw some beautiful table ideas and got to taste yummy cake from some old friends at I Dream of Cake. One of their cakes was my favorite of the day. It was so different and unique and it didn't even look like cake, but let me tell you it was soooooo moist and delicious!!! PET PEEVE: beautiful cake that is dry. no good!

I also found out a favorite cheese cake vendor now does cake cake, too. Elegant Cheesecake was so kind to send us home with a mini cake in our swag bag! My hubby thanks them too as I let him have half.

Look out, my enthusiasm and excitement might wear off on you!

Bloggin' from the road - can't wait to see if I can get this up and running

what to do with a high energy two-year-old little girl? why a monkey-themed gymnastics party of course! this party was a blast to pull together with some already created elements from a party store, we took it to the next level. we started with a custom illustration of our birthday girl which captured her spirit to a tee.

we used the wall clings we found as part of the party collection to to decorate the room along with oversize photos of the birthday girl in her custom made outfit from KIDS' CLOTHES 'N BIG OL' BOWS (KCBOB). we also used coordinating balloons and streamers to jazz up the birthday room at the local YMCA.

next we worked with 'just a mom confections' to created some very sassy and cute monkey cookies. we baked and decorated coordinating cupcakes and made kid friendly lunches, including PB&J sandwiches. we even made little labels on the sammies so a few kids that had special sandwiches knew which ones were theirs. then we packaged everything up in coordinating favor boxes that we used as lunch boxes.

we think the party was a swingin' from the trees success!

1st birthday butterflies

we've been working with these twin girls since they were born (we did their birth announcement) and we're so excited to get the call to do their 1st birthday party. we worked with mom to brainstorm some ideas that would allow us to have 'two' elements on the invite that were the same item, yet individually different. voila!

we worked with our new offset print house to print these invites on crisp white linen paper as a 5x5 four color piece. the pinks were soooo vibrant and beautiful.

next we worked with just a mom confections to design custom sugar cookies. she bakes and decorates the cookies to match the invitation we've designed. and guess what? they are the most delicious cookies too!! once they were bagged and tied with ribbon we could not believe just how cute they were.

the ox rocks | red egg and ginger

we love trying new things! this is our first red egg and ginger party invitation...and are client thinks "it is totally perfect, exactly what we wanted - a nod to tradition but still unique and fresh!"

red egg and ginger parties have their origins in ancient chinese culture. as in other countries, infant mortality rates in china were quite high prior to the medical advances of the twentieth century. a baby who reached one month of age was likely to survive, and so the event was celebrated. today the party is usually held within the first 3 months after the baby is born as a way for the proud parents to introduce their latest addition to friends and relatives.

we got a call from a very excited mother of a soon-to-be 6 year old who wanted a pirate girl party. we quickly jumped right into the action planning a party complete with invites, a treasure hunt and booty bags!

the invitation includes:

- customized illustration of pirate girl

- high end backing cardstock and envelope

- festively printed guest mailing address on envelope

- pirate girl sticker seal

who says pirates are only for boys? arrrrrrgghh!

we LOVE it when clients come to us with visions and ideas but have NO idea how to pull things together.

such was the case with these invites. our bride knew she wanted brown and blue worked into the palette and also wanted to use a custom apple illustration that a friend illustrated for her based on a pillow she had seen in a magazine.

put it all together and what do you get? these fresh and sweet yet modern invites.

we designed an invitation, reply card and directions insert and printed everything for our client. she choose our DIY (do it yourself) design package, so she glued all of the pieces together.

she also provided us with her guest list so that we could custom print the guest's mailing address on the envelopes to match the fonts used on the invitations.

This week I'm very excited to be getting ready for two awesome weddings in the city - only issue is the bridge closer. But I KNOW it will not be a problem.

we're always excited to get calls from our long time clients. they are so used to working with us that they just call up, give us the event details and say, 'how about a circus theme?'

we got our wheels turning and we LOVE this new design - the lift up tent front is just too cute!

the tent colors can be customized for any birthday boy or girl's favorite colors. we chose pink and red as a nod to the popular colors of february!

let the big top circus birthday fun begin!

woo hoo! we made it through the holidays and we're excited to say we got to work on some really fun projects. (check back for more details)

our new favorite thing is a 'happy new year' greeting. just think how exciting it is to get a beautiful card in the mail just AFTER christmas...just when you thought all the fun mail (not bills) is over....you get a little package of love!

hi friends!

i've been meaning to do this for some time....but i'm now finally getting to it! i've created this space to share ideas i have about event planning and design super fun parties. i just finished up an AWESOME kids party yesterday (with lots of help from my friend joanna) and i want to be able to share some of the great stuff i found and links to favorite site!
